Toronto has beaches!

27 Nov

Many times, when you say that you live in Canada, the first thing you get is, Oh! it’s so cold there! For some reason both Toronto and Canada are frequently associated with polar bears, Eskimos, igloos, and humanly unbearable cold. Some of that is true, and I don’t mean the bears or the igloos…

Joking aside, as mentioned in the previous post

11 things you discover when you reach Toronto (especially in winter), cold is completely manageable if you equip yourself with Canada proof clothing and you face the weather conditions with a positive attitude.

Like everything in life, there is also another side of Toronto that is less known; I’m talking about the Toronto Islands which is located in the Inner Harbour opposite the city center.

You can access the Islands via ferry, private boat or plane if you’re traveling via Porter, Air Canada as Billy Bishop Toronto Airport is a part of the Toronto islands.

Within the Toronto Islands there is a small community living throughout the year and some that do that just reside there during the summer time. One of the islands Centreville has a children’s park with rides and attractions and even an animal petting farm.

Several of the islands have extended beaches where swimming is allowed. One of these beaches, located on Hanlan’s Point, is famous for being a beach where the use of swimwear is optional.

The Toronto Islands have a church, a school, two cafes, a restaurant, a fire and police station, 3 yacht clubs and a marina.

For its proximity to the city and the attractions that it has to offer, it is an ideal place to visit (especially in summer time) because the temperatures tend to be more moderate near water. Other activities include live concerts, a maze, bike rides, and pedal cars and for those who are brave enough to take part in water sports, there are canoes and pedal boats to rent.

The vegetation is plentiful and varied. Trees are beautiful, tall and mature. The green areas are spacious, well maintained and are ideal for cooking barbecues in typical Canadian picnic tables.
